On March 20th of this year, I wrote a post about my running PR’s (Personal Records). Since the start of 2016, I have consciously thought each day about my commitment to my running goals and how these goals improve upon my health, which is one of my four quadrants of focus in life (children, health, career, friends). Four five months, I exceeded the total number of miles run in the previous month, and I did so at a faster per mile time. I was heading towards exceptional. Then in June I faltered, I didn’t quit, and I was still cranking out more miles than the average bear, but I lost my trend, and ran about 75% of what I had done in May. I blamed this subpar behavior on the heat and the traveling that I was doing in June. I dubbed June my recovery month. Then I repeated the same performance in July, running a few miles more than I did in June, but still off pace from May. I blamed the heat.
Now it is August, and I am back on pace to significantly exceed the total miles that I ran in May (my best month so far), and my pace is significantly faster than it was in May. It is actually a minute per mile faster than my average mile time was in July. I feel great, and the faster I go, the more I look forward to my next run. The best part is that I have achieved the goals set out in my March running post. My goal was to improve upon of my PR’s
