It is a quarter until 9 o’clock in the evening. The boys and I just finished a wonderful night of family time together, and they are getting an hour to hang out together in the garage apartment before bedtime.
My work day was long, but that was my fault for starting work at around 3 AM this morning. Once the work day was finished, I went for a long run, and we had what we call “dinner from the freezer”. As the name implies, everyone finds something for themselves from the freezer (or fridge). Little Chirp went for the chicken pot pie and Brainy Bird had mozzarella sticks. I made myself two fried eggs.
Then it was finally time to try out our new popcorn pan. I had been thinking about this all day. I expected a learning experience and a lingering smell of failure in the form of burnt popcorn. To the contrary, our first batch of popcorn popped perfectly, so much so that we made a second batch within minutes. Little Chirp was in charge of turning the pan and sprinkling the popcorn salt and butter on the popcorn. It was one of those moments that I wish I had on video. I wished that Dad had been here with us.
Little Chirp was comical through the whole popcorn making process. He looked at the two flaps of the lid, and said, “The oil goes on one side and the kernels go on the other.” Of course, it does not matter which side one puts either on, it all drops into the same pot. He was just amusing us all. One can never tell if Little Chirp is really that excited about it all, or if he is just making it fun for the rest of us. Either way, he definitely made popcorn making fun for us.
Once our two batches of perfectly popped popcorn were ready, we settled into the living room for family movie night. I feel like every movie that Hulu and Amazon Prime suggests is something scary, and I wanted a change of pace. We decided on, The Ultimate Gift, which was a complete change of pace from the movies we have watched recently. This was a feel good movie that we all enjoyed.
Today has been a good day.
Brainy Bird completed two of his seven AP exams today. Today’s exams were both for physics. He is taking the exams from the garage apartment. We are treating the apartment like a photo exposure room during test taking time. No one is to go in while testing is in progress.
Brainy Bird emerged from the first exam with a look of complete confidence. He said that he would be surprised if he did not make a 5 on the exam. The second exam he felt less confident. He had issues with the submission of his answers, and he is not entirely sure that everything worked properly with the online exam. He did feel confident in his responses.
Sigh, my biggest fear with all of this is a technology outage. Brainy Bird did feel confident that if the test did not submit properly that he could do just as well on it in June when they have planned the retake. We will have to wait and see. There is that phrase again, “wait and see”.
Tomorrow, I have just 30 minutes free without a client meeting. I feel blessed to be this busy with work. Brainy Bird has his calculus AP exam, which he feels extremely positive about. Little Chirp has already completed most of his school work for the week, and he will undoubtedly be spending a good portion of his day at his basketball court.
Tonight when the movie was over, Little Chirp got up to turn on the light in the living room, and I was talking with Brainy Bird about the movie. We look over at Little Chirp, who appears to be dancing. I said, “Are dance moves your new thing?” His response, “I am not dancing, I am dribbling a basketball.” I think we should set it to music and put it all YouTube.
It is the little things in life.
