It is Tuesday, the start of the seventh week of the “New Normal”. I took a rest day from running, which is rare and much needed. The driver of my rest day is that I have too much to get done for work, and I needed the time back this morning.

My day is off to a solid start, aside from my stock portfolio. I finally got back into the market yesterday. I made a nice return yesterday, and I seem to be giving it all back today. I had forgotten how much I love trading. I all but gave it up when I was with my former employer because there were so many restrictions on what we could trade. It feels great to be back in the game.

It is a normal day of the “New Normal”, except today I am filled with hope. I have a client that when I ask for feedback about my project, often says, “I am cautiously optimistic.” That is how I feel about the reopening of Texas.

I believe that keys to our success, include:

– Not panicking. Numbers are going to rise because we are doing more testing, and there may be additional fatalities. We need to not panic, and we need to stay on the course of reopening.

– Patience. Every small business is run by human beings. This has been a challenging time for everyone. As businesses open back up, I hope that customers are patient, kind and generous.

– Cleanliness. Everyone needs to do their part to keep our businesses clean. Handing washing, and not leaving behind a mess for someone else to clean up are critical. It is infuriating when people dispose of their latex gloves on the ground. What’s the plan there? Protect oneself, and not care about the person who has to do the clean up?

– Humility. We need our Harris County leaders to step aside. Our state government is way better equipped to guide us through the process of reopening.

– Mindfulness. The world does not magically go back to normal on May 1. There are still many small businesses that are unable to open. Most businesses that can open on Friday will be operating in the red because of the constraints on capacity. Unemployment is rampant. Domestic violence is on a steep incline. We have a long road ahead.

Let’s do this Texas. Let us begin to take back our freedom. Let us set an example not only for our nation but for the world.

God Blessed Texas with His Own Hand…
